Diabetes - Causes and symptoms
To understand diabetes, it is important to first understand the normal process by which food is broken down and used by the body for energy. Several things happen when food is digested. A sugar called glucose enters the bloodstream. Glucose is a source of fuel for the body. Pancreas makes insulin. The role of insulin is to move glucose from the bloodstream into muscle, fat, and liver cells, where it can be used as fuel. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas to control blood sugar. Diabetes can be caused by too little insulin, resistance to insulin, or both.

Diabetes is a condition where blood sugar level increases more than threshold level. Normal fasting blood sugar level is 80 to 120mg/dl. Obesity, lack of exercise, family history and stress are the main factors which increases the likelihood of diabetes. In type 1 Diabetes, the pancreas stop producing insulin due to autoimmune response or possibly viral attack on pancreas. The initial symptoms include nausea and vomiting, and also fast weight loss as the body starts breaking muscles to produce energy. In type 2 diabetes, the symptoms are increased fatigue, polydipsia - more thirst, polyuria - increased frequency of urination, polyphagia - increased hunger, blurry vision, poor wound healing etc. Constantly high blood sugar level can lead to several complications like kidney failure, cardiovascular problems, and neuropathy. Patients with diabetes are four times more likely to suffer coronary heart disease and it is one of the leading causes of kidney failure.

Naturopathic treatment
Simple changes in diet, exercise can control diabetes to a major extent. Naturopathy gives long term relief from diabetes but most people are not ready to spend time for treatment and rather go for allopathic medication which gives symptomatic relief and does not treat the root cause. Naturopathy treatment starts with several changes in diet. Introduction ofJamun juice, bitter gourd juice, methi powder, green gram, alpha alpha sprout which act as natural insulin in the body helps in supporting the less production of insulin. Further, fruits which contain functional sugar and not direct sugar like papaya and apple are recommended. This prevents sudden increase in blood sugar levels after food intake.

This would be supplemented by naturopathic treatments like gastro-hepatic pack, cold abdominal pack, cold spinal pack, warm leg pack, full body massage and acupressure. These help in increasing the blood flow across the body, which improves the body's capability to control blood sugar. Also, special yoga asanas, pranayama and meditation under the guidance of a qualified yoga teacher relax the body completely, giving it time to repair itself. Simple exercises like brisk walking etc. help to stimulate the pancreas and in turn improve insulin production gradually.

Since naturopathic treatment tries to address the root cause of diabetes, it has fairly long term results. Simple follow up plan consisting of easy exercises, diet etc. would be suggested to the patients which help them reverse their diabetes condition completely. Naturopathy hence helps you to get back your healthy life, free from diabetes.
